Prof Richard J. Evans’s Trilogy

Allan Lane published a three volume history of the German Third Reich (The Coming of the Third Reich, The Third Reich in Power, and The Third Reich at War) between 2003 and 2008 by Prof Richard J. Evans; some of whose works I had already illustrated by then with black and white maps. At his request I prepared the altogether 63 maps. This included typically both compilation and cartography. Compilation was often made by me quite independently on the basis of no more than finding then presenting the content most suitable to the titles as defined by the Prof Evans. In some other instances, he provided the mappable data, the most meaningful map presentation of which remained for me to find, and draw. We liaised throughout the work. It was rare that he did not fully like my initial approach. In such cases the best solution was found by coordinated effort.

Later on, I prepared further 20 maps for his The Pursuit of Power: Europe 1815–1914, published by Viking in 2016.
