Philip’s
Philip’s Publishers (part of Octopus Publishing Group) decided on the publication of an Atlas of European History. They assigned me, in early 2000, the role of historical cartographic consultant. This included the preparation of the contents list and the working out of its details. I liaised with the editor, Steve Luck. My initial task was the compilation and actual cartography of the maps of the several spreads that they intended to take to the Frankfurt bookfair, so as to judge the feasibility of the atlas as a commercial undertaking. By the time, however, that I was approaching completion, Philip’s reconsidered the enterprise for financial reasons and decided for the time being, to shelve the project before it had the chance to get to Frankfurt.
